Deeper and broader in less time with serious fun

Lego Serious Play

I became a certified Lego Serious Play facilitator in December 2018.

The training was conducted over 4 days in London with a Master trainer, Robert Rasmussen, who is the creator of LSP methodology.

During the 4 days, I had so much fun playing with Lego bricks for over 8 hours. There were some serious moments which I found very emotional and challenging. There were only 12 to-be facilitators in each training course and their background ranges from educators, consultants, engineers and designer like myself. We were all curious to learn how these Lego bricks could bring out every single voice onto the table when we only associate it as a childhood toy.

Not only did it show me the power of these bricks but it also opened my eyes to how communication is not always accurately shared, perceived, and sometimes lost in a group setting.

It’s not a common goal we need but a shared goal

Often in a meeting, not every voice is heard. Some are either too loud or too quiet, some don’t even have a chance because they have been dismissed in the past. Also not all leaders have all the answers.

Leaders don’t know it all. They need their people’s voice to bring perspectives from all angles to form a bigger picture, allowing their people to share openly and safely.

Lego Serious Play is all about ‘Constructivism‘ and not ‘Instructivism‘. So what does this mean?

Constructivism

…is all about learning through the active process. Human learning is constructed and learners build new knowledge upon the foundations of the previous learning.

Learners will constantly update their own mental models to include the new information and construct their own interpretation from it.

Instructivism

…is learning which tends to be one person in control of what is to be learnt and how it should be learnt, for example like a teacher or instructor in a controlled setting.

The learner is a passive character receiving knowledge, content and even exploring ideas in pursuit of other’s goals. In business setting that could be the leader’s goals.

In short

If you trying to solve a problem that cannot be quantified by data or you don’t have a solution. As a leader you may not have the answer but you value everyone’s opinions.

Lego Serious Play can help you get what you need. Have serious fun with your favourite childhood bricks, hear from everyone in the room with 100% participation in a safe environment.

Most importantly trust your hands!

Let’s play!
